About the project

Problem

Digital prayer content needs visuals that feel personal, not produced

Hallow, the number one prayer app in the world, was producing a daily devotional and prayer series featuring Bible teacher Jeff Cavins alongside Jonathan Roumie, known for portraying Jesus in The Chosen. Cavins led the study portions from a warm, intimate setting, and Roumie narrated the prayer readings. The challenge was creating motion graphics and visual assets that matched the tone of the series, something that felt warm, inviting, and calming rather than overly polished or corporate, while also giving the Hallow team a system they could update on their own as new episodes were produced.

Solution

A flexible visual system built for daily content at scale

We created a 3D-rendered intro sequence designed to match the look and feel of Jeff Cavins' study environment, giving it a soft, painterly treatment that set a contemplative tone from the first frame. For the prayer portions narrated by Jonathan Roumie, we built looping backdrops in both two-minute and five-minute versions, featuring a wooden desk surface with natural light streaming through a window and a gentle particle system drifting through the scene. Prayer text animates softly onto the screen over these backdrops, allowing viewers to read along as Roumie narrates. The entire system was built inside working After Effects files where the Hallow team could swap in new titles, prayer text, and episode details without needing to rebuild anything, then render and publish on their own schedule. We also created transitions between the talking-head study segments and the prayer sequences to keep the flow between sections seamless.
